Day in the Life of an MTI Student

Between fun activities, school spirit, and hands-on training, there’s a lot going on at all Midwest Technical Institute campuses for students to experience.

Students’ daily routines provides variety with the challenging and exciting array of programs offered at MTI, all of which includes hands-on training. Students have plenty of chances to enjoy many campus activities.

MTI Provides Hands-On Training

MTI is a year-round school that provides vocational training in skilled trades and allied health career fields in which job growth is expected. MTI’s classrooms, workshops, and computer and training labs are designed for students to receive hands-on skilled training and mature into career professionalsThe Dental Assisting Program at MTI is a 9-month (35-week) program, which allows students to learn from classroom lectures led by instructors, and then practice skills in laboratories [1], known as hands-on labs. The laboratory experience at MTI enables students to solidify their knowledge, and practice in real-world environments. Externships allow students to hone the skills they’ve learned in classrooms at MTI in a real-world setting. An externship is short-term training in a workplace, usually offered to students as part of a program or course. At MTI*, our allied health programs, like medical assisting, have an externship included.

*Not all programs and courses at MTI offer an externship.

Student Life at MTI

While students apply themselves within their respective programs, they can also spend time in engaging activities and experiences on campus. In the past many students have enjoyed lunch in the student lounge, where there were school-sponsored activities during mid-day like a resume workshop, Popcorn Day, or cookout. Students can also attend designated “Lunch and Learns,” with topics including interview tips, money management, and others.

If students attend a campus that offers the Cosmetology Program, afternoons can be a good time to stop by the Cosmetology Lab. Students can receive a discount when they get a hair cut or other service by fellow students in the Cosmetology Program.

MTI supports numerous charities, which inspire many student events and philanthropic activities. Last April, MTI sponsored a one-mile “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” walk [3] to support various issues, and rally the MTI community to take action and learn about prevention. For the students who dined at Springfield Texas Roadhouse, the restaurant donated at least 10% of their check totals [3] to the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” cause.
