MAY 31, 2022: Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) is now offering a 25-day CDL Training Course at the Springfield, Illinois campus that prepares students to pass the state licensing exam and obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) in Illinois.
The American Trucking Association reported the industry is short 80,000 drivers as of October 2021-a historic high. That shortage could rise to 160,000 by 2030. The report cites increased demand for freight, pandemic-related challenges from early retirements, and other factors as contributing to the increased demand for drivers and subsequently the shortage.
Obtaining a CDL to operate a truck is a prerequisite for all professional truckers. As of February 2022, a new law mandates all aspiring CDL drivers to complete a training program from a registered provider before they take the skills test. MTI is recognized by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) as an approved ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training) provider.

The CDL Training Course is a combination of classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training on the range, where students will practice driving maneuvers. Students will also gain experience on the open road, preparing them to begin their career as a truck driver.
