SPRINGFIELD, IL—Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) invites the community to join us as we proudly celebrate the CDL Training Course and the launch of the $2,500 CDL Scholarship! The CDL Training Course provides students the training necessary to gain entry-level employment in the trucking industry, which is currently facing a massive shortage.
According to the American Trucking Association, the industry was short by 80,000 drivers in 2021—and that’s likely to double by 2030. Walmart made headlines last year by announcing new drivers could make up to $110,000 in their first year with the company.
“Right now, the trucking industry offers many opportunities for new drivers to start a career in transportation, especially here in Illinois. We’re honored to be a part of our students journey toward a career path that can offer competitive pay and opportunity for growth,” said Shelia Wilson, Campus President of MTI’s Springfield, IL location.

MTI is currently offering a $2,500 CDL Scholarship for 2023! The CDL Scholarship will be awarded to any student who enrolls and starts class on November 20th or December 18th, 2023 start date. The CDL Training Course provides students behind-the-wheel, on-the-range, and over-the-road training led by instructors with years of professional driving experience.
Several members of the transportation community will be in attendance, including DOT Trucking, Swift Trucking, and more. We encourage you to join us to meet the members of our trucking department. MTI faculty and staff will be available for media interviews. Lunch will be provided.
