The HVAC/R program is designed for persons with or without previous training or experience in
any of the climate control disciplines. The objective of the program is to provide the student
with a least the minimum of entry-level skills with which he or she can obtain employment in
the climate control industry. The program includes extensive hands on training with residential
and commercial refrigeration, gas furnaces, heat pumps, electric furnaces and air conditioning
equipment.
The MTI HVAC/R program consists of six (6) six (6) week modules that include HVAC Excellence
certifications in each module and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification
which is included in the first module. Completion of all six (6) modules with a minimum
grade point average of 2.0 and passing the EPA Core Section and at least Type I and II entitles
the student to a diploma in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR).
To be considered as an applicant for advanced placement through the United Association of
Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and
Canada (UA) per its’ articulate agreement, the UA’s 5 Star career program, the Mechanical Service
Contractors of America (MSCA) and Johnson Controls’ Career Connect program, a student
must meet the criteria of: completion of the MTI HVACR course, acquiring at least six (6)
HVAC Excellence employment readiness certifications, maintain a minimum of a C (70%) MTI
average and not exceed a maximum of one (1) unexcused absence per each six (6) week module.
The graduate will be qualified for employment as an equipment installer, service technician,
apartment maintenance technician, sales representative, air conditioning specialist, equipment
and parts salesperson, company service manager, residential and light commercial air conditioning,
heating technician, and other related service positions.
